About the Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice

PPWH Logo

The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice exists to help patients achieve the best quality of life possible in whatever time remains for them. Where it may not be possible to add days to lives, the hospice aims to add life to days and as a registered charity, our care is free of charge.

The team of multi-disciplinary staff take a holistic approach, recognising patients’ emotional, social and spiritual needs as well as practising advanced pain and symptom control. We treat the person, not the disease – and also offer practical and emotional support to families and carers in the most challenging of times.

We provide a compassionate place of care for people who have been diagnosed with a life-limiting or life-shortening illness, such as cancer, heart failure, lung disease or neurological conditions. We offer comfort and peace of mind to patients and their families and carers and treat everyone with kindness, respect and dignity.

The hospice currently supports more than 325 patients at any one time – in the Living Well Hub, in the 16-bedded inpatient unit within the hospice and through the Community Nursing Team which supports people in their own homes. We care for 1,200 new patients and their families every year.

The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice also supports a growing cohort of young adults with life-limiting conditions for example, neurological neurodisability, profound learning disabilities with complex health care needs, muscular dystrophy, and spinal muscular atrophy. These young adults are offered support, clinical supervision and access to social and wellbeing services at the hospice. Specialist care is provided by hospice staff, allowing young people to be cared for in an age-appropriate and safe environment which is shaped around their individual needs.
